Earlier, we reported how Microsoft is giving Windows 7 phones to student app developers in India. Now, Microsoft has come up with another campaign aimed at the student masses in general, and not just the developer community amongst them, but anyone studying in a college in India.
This competition proclaims “Windows U Crew” wanted. The competition involves taking up a small quiz on Windows 7, making a video on how Windows is helping you, and completing a few tasks if the video is shortlisted.
The prizes are not as lucrative as the Windows 7 mobile contest which gives away Windows phone in return for developing four apps. Still, the prizes are worth vying for here as well. Winners get a U Crew kit, goodies and a Microsoft certificate – that too for just making a small 3 minute video, which I feel can be made by an average computer user easily.
P.S. – The contest requires people with genuine Windows 7 licenses participating. Microsoft knows that many people in India use a Windows 7 fake copy which they got it while buying their computer. Ha! Good one I say
Youth Marketing – The Future of Marketing Lies Here
Microsoft has launched two campaigns aimed at students. These campaigns were designed specifically targetting the people who are most likely to buy a Windows phone or a Windows computer. Similarly, other companies are also looking at the 15-25 age gap as they are not only mainstream end-users but also the major influencers in their families. Airtel, with its youth-based campaign named “Har Ek Friend Zaruri Hota Hai” was one of the first companies to take the cue.
Now, firms have realised that they need to capture the ideas and minds of the younger generation to influence the others in the family to buy a product. They come up with campus ambassador programs, and innovative contests around their products.
I feel that we’d be seeing more youth-based campaigns in India. Microsoft’s contests are not only innovative, but can spread the buzz about their products. They’ve even started advertising on Facebook regarding the contests – probably the best place to do so, as most of the youngsters can be found on Facebook these days.
